HOW TO BUY A TICKET AND VALIDATE IT
If you want to travel by public transport in Warsaw, you need to buy tickets.
TICKETS
You can buy tickets at newsagents’ and from ticket machines, which are placed in many places in Warsaw, mainly at the stops and on some vehicles. If there is no ticket machine, please buy a ticket directly from the driver.
Tickets need to be validated when you enter the means of transport – yellow validators are usually placed near the doors.
When you enter the underground you need to go through gates with ticket validators. The gate will open only after the ticket is inserted and validated.
TYPES OF TICKETS:
20-minute ticket – lets you travel by public transport for 20 minutes from the time of validation. You can change the means of transport in the meantime. Price of ticket: regular 3,40zł, reduced-fee 1,70zł
75min, 90min tickets – let you use public transport during 75 or 90 minutes from time of validation. There is no limit of changes of means of transport. Price of ticket for 75 min: regular 4,40zł, reduced-fee 2,20zł Price of ticket for 90min: regular 7zł, reduced fee 3,50zł
24-hour ticket – as the name suggest, you can use it 24 hours from the time of validation. Price of ticket: regular 15zł, reduced fee 7,50zł
Weekend ticket – lets you use public transport between 7.00p.m . Friday and 8.00 Monday. Price of ticket: regular 24zł, reduced fee 12zł
Weekend group ticket –as above, aimed at groups of up to 5 persons. Price: 40zł
Fee reductions are available for holders of ISIC cards or student’s ID cards issued by the Academy. Please note that transport fees may be subject to change. The current rates are valid as of May 2015. More information about tickets at: http://www.ztm.waw.pl/
All tickets need to be validated (stamped) when you enter the means of transport. They can be used on all means of public transport in and around Warsaw (bus, tram, underground and SKM – Rapid Urban Rail).
At the back of the ticket there appears the date and time to which the ticket is valid. After validating your ticket, you may travel and change the means of transport – the only limitation is the time stamped on your ticket.
You have to remember that smoking and drinking alcohol are not allowed in public places – on public transport, bus or tram stops, stations. Those who break the law will be fined.
